A Sunny Walk Through the Surrey Hills

An afternoon walk in the Surrey Hills is always a good idea.

We started our walk in the  pretty village of Shere on one of those perfect summer days - warm, sunny and with hardly a cloud in the sky. With its quaint cottages and beautiful old church, Shere always feels as though it's been lifted straight from a postcard or a blockbuster movie, and it was lovely to wander through before heading out into the countryside.

After crossing the Rectory Lane Ford, we picked up a winding footpath through Silver Wood, where the sunlight spilled through the trees and everything felt wonderfully peaceful. It was one of those walks where you don't really have anywhere to be, so you can just enjoy your surroudings.

As the woodland opened up, we were treated to some gorgeous views of rolling hills and fields dotted with wildflowers. Bees, butterflies and other pollinators were busy moving from flower to flower, while cows and sheep grazed lazily in the surrounding meadows. Most of the animals seemed to have had the right idea though, gathering beneath trees and hedgerows to escape the heat of the afternoon sun.

I had a few phone cases with me to photograph and share along the way, and they made a good excuse to pause every now and then and take in the scenery properly. Standing among the wildflowers, with nothing but birdsong, buzzing insects and sweeping green views around me, I couldn't help but feel completely at peace.

It was such a joyful walk -  the kind that leaves you feeling refreshed, content and grateful for the simple pleasure of being outdoors. Sometimes all you need is a sunny day, a good footpath and a beautiful corner of the countryside to remind you how calming it can be to slow down and just enjoy the moment.
